How ResuMatch Works — Step by Step
ResuMatch shows you the same process companies use when AI screens your resume: split documents into chunks, compare them to the job description, and score your fit. Follow these steps to optimize your resume before you apply.
Paste Your Documents
Add the job description and your resume on the Input Documents tab. Upload PDF, DOCX, or TXT files — text is extracted entirely in your browser. You can also load sample roles to explore the tool.
Watch the Engine Chunk
ATS systems don't read your resume as one block — they split it into sections and paragraphs. ResuMatch does the same so you can see exactly what the AI will evaluate. Adjust chunk size and overlap in the sidebar to experiment.
Inspect Chunk Alignment
Open the Chunk Playground to see every resume and JD chunk side by side. Edit chunks, add new ones, and view alignment maps in the Visual Match Matrix to find gaps before submitting your application.
Add Your API Key
AI scoring requires your own API key — the app runs in your browser and calls the AI directly. Keys are stored only on your device. See the free key guide below to get started in under two minutes.
Run AI Evaluation
Click Evaluate Fit & Debug Resume. The AI judge reviews matched chunks like a recruiter — scoring skills, experience, tools, leadership, and education fit against the job requirements.
Use the Resume Debugger
The Debugger tab shows specific resume statements to rewrite, with suggested improvements and explanations of why each change increases your match score.
ResuMatch has no backend server. Your documents and API key never leave your browser except when calling your chosen AI provider. A free Gemini or OpenRouter key lets you run unlimited evaluations at no cost to us.
Get your free API key
- Visit Google AI Studio and sign in with your Google account
- Click Create API key and copy the generated key
- Open API Settings in ResuMatch, select Google Gemini, paste your key, and click Save
- Visit openrouter.ai/keys and create an account
- Generate an API key from your dashboard
- Select OpenRouter in API Settings, paste the key, and click Save
Keyword Overlap (TF-IDF) and Local Cosine Similarity update instantly as you change settings — no API key needed. AI Judge provides recruiter-quality scores and rewrite suggestions but requires an API key and a fresh evaluation after you change chunk settings.
